NAP stands for Name, Address, Phone. The principle: write them exactly the same way wherever your business appears.
Why it matters
Google cross-checks information: your profile, your website, directories, social media, the official business register. When everything matches, it trusts you. When an old address or an old number lingers somewhere, it hesitates.
So do your customers: a call to a number that no longer answers is a lost customer.
The words to know
- Name
- The same everywhere, for example “Dupont Couverture”, not “Couverture Dupont” here and “SARL Dupont” there.
- Address
- The same address, written the same way. If you do not receive customers, it can be hidden on Google, but it must stay consistent.
- Phone
- A stable business number that you will keep, the same on your profile, website, quotes and van.
What you can do yourself
- Choose one reference spelling for your name, address and phone number
- Use it on your Google profile, your website (contact page and footer), Facebook and Instagram
- Check Apple Maps, Bing, PagesJaunes and the other directories where you appear
- Check your details on the Annuaire des entreprises, the French government website that uses official data
- After a move or a change of number: update everything, everywhere, including the old number
- Using different numbers on different websites
- Leaving an old address on a directory “because nobody sees it”
Along with your Google profile and your website, we make your contact details consistent on the main websites where you appear.
Frequently asked questions
I work from home: do I have to show my address?
No: on Google, you can hide your address and show a service area. But the declared address must stay the same wherever it appears.
I changed my number: is that a problem?
No, as long as you change it everywhere. Some directories reuse old data: you sometimes have to correct them one by one.
Do I need a landline?
No. What matters is a stable business number that you will keep for a long time.
